Spinning Techniques to help you become a better follower and a better lead. Just like when you spin a top as a child, the same techniques work. You always go to the center of the toy top, and then spin. It is is exact same concept that will help you to learn how to spin a follower.
Watch this short video with Natalie and James in an actual lesson to learn how to spin and how to lead a good spin.
Just imagine that your follow has a halo. Your spinning techniques as her leader will improve as you just dust off the halo and you can lead her to spin like a top. Spinning techniques are easier when you know this secret.
Review: What’s the secret?
When you spin, you never do so on one foot. In Ballet, we call this move a pirouette . Very experience dancers do this move on one foot. Social dancers? Not so much. But the secret to a fast, social spin for a woman is to pivot on one foot 180 degrees, and then change feet to pivot on the ball of the other foot another 180 degrees. Tah dah – you just did a spin one half turn at a time. Double spins are done the same way, but twice. Please keep your feet close together as in a Chainés turns. (Pronounced: Shah Nay) This position of the feet are called first position or in simpler terms – you put your heels together.
A few lessons will help put you in the right direction. The next step will be to practice what you are taught. Without the practice the dance lesson for spinning techniques will leak out of your brain. I suggest one lesson. Then go home and practice for a week. Come back for your second lesson and review and learn a few more dance moves. If you require more input, a third lesson should bring you closer to your goal. 407-297-9048
